Once I realised poetry was what you made it
That was a long time ago,
Before I understood the importance
Of this discovery
Then I realised that the world was a harsh reality:
And I had been thrown to fend for myself.
I began to see the real meaning for feelings,
Promised myself I would understand my emotions
Pleaded with myself to let them go
But no, it wasn't so.
I became obsessed, drawn,
Fascinated by these deep stirrings
The power of their being was scary: a beautiful,
Terrifying, wonderful world of weakness
And strength
And struggle
And hope
And joy
And sadness
And more,
And that I found, was what poetry was for.
